It takes money, supplies, equipment, medications, lab tests, and lots of hard work to provide first-class care to those who seek our help. Our cost to give care to one patient, including doctor's visit, x-ray, lab work and free prescriptions, is $58, one-third the cost of the same visit at a private doctor's office and one-fourth of the cost of a visit to the Emergency Room.
Here are some of our urgent needs for 2003-2004:
Sponsor a patient's visit:
$58 (includes doctor's visit, lab work, x-rays and prescription medications)
Sponsor children's services:
$1,000 sponsors all children's medical services for one week.

Sponsor prescription medications:
Your gift of $1,134 makes you a partner with United Way in our Pharmacy program. United Way provides annual support which covers a large portion but not all of our pharmacy needs. Your gift of $1,134 covers all prescriptions for one week, (approximately 300 patient visits) the amount not funded by United Way.

Diabetes Care:
LVIM has as many as 500 patients who suffer from diabetes, a costly and debilitating disease which often results in complications involving the heart, kidneys, eyes, circulatory system and nerves.
Can You Give?
$48 sponsors one patient for one month, including glucose test strips, blood lancets, alcohol swabs and insulin syringes.
$576 sponsors one diabetes patent for one year.
$11,520 sponsors our Diabetes Care for the 20 patients most in need of care for one full year. Appropriate recognition will be given for a corporate or individual sponsorship of this Program.

High Blood Pressure Care Program:
High blood pressure is experienced by approximately 15% of LVIM's patients and is responsible for illness and even death. 300 of these persons are enrolled in our High Blood Pressure Program. Our patients with hypertension have their pressure checked and receive counseling, laboratory blood work and free medications. The goal is to keep our patients' blood pressure under 140/90 by medication and lifestyle changes. By enrolling more patients in the Program, we will be helping them prevent the many serious consequences of this condition in an inexpensive way.
Can You Help These Patients?
$85 per patient per year to join the Hypertension Program.
$817 for 500 new patients for one week in the Program.
$3,538 for 500 patients for one month in the Clinic.
$42,456 to add 500 patients to the Hypertension Clinic for one full year.

Cancer Screening:
Thanks to arrangements with cancer specialty providers, LVIM make every effort to send patients discovered to have cancer for treatment. Our need is to do a more thorough job of screening patients, most of whom have never been tested anyway.
Can You Give to Help treat Cancer?
$49 will screen ten men for prostate cancer.
$80 will screen one woman for breast cancer.
$490 will screen 100 men for prostate cancer.
$8,000 will screen 100 woman for breast cancer.

Dental Program:
Sixteen area dentists have offered their services at LVIM. In order to help them help our patients, they require an experienced Dental Assistant to prepare equipment and supplies and assist with patients. In part because we do not currently have a dental coordinator, our waiting list for emergency dental care is almost one year long. For those suffering with serious decay or dental abscess, that is an eternity of pain.
Can You Give for Dental Care?
$18,000 per year will enable LVIM to hire a half-time dental coordinator/chairside assistant.
