2022 Leaders of Polk

WHAT IS LEADERS OF POLK?

Swan Derby is comprised of 3 races and one of these is called the Derby Dash – Featuring the Leaders of Polk. This race is comprised of 10 teams/20 jockeys of whom are hand picked by the current “Mama Swan” to represent Polk County’s best and brightest, community business leaders.

The Leaders of Polk race jockeys have 2 opportunities to win. Awards and recognition are given to both the winner of the swan race and to the team who raises the most donations for LVIM.  It’s a fun, friendly and competitive way for the leaders to share the mission and to raise money for LVIM. Leaders of Polk Jockeys are announced at our annual press conference held in January.

Fundraising begins 1 month prior to the Derby and will cease 1 week before the Derby event. The dates are determined by the event date.

If you are interested in becoming a Leaders of Polk jockey, please contact Sonia Glisson at sglisson@lvim.net.

2022-2023 MAMA SWAN

CONGRATULATIONS ERIN AND THANK YOU FOR ACCEPTING WILL’S WINGS AS THE NEXT MAMA SWAN!

Erin grew up in New York and since she has lived in Lakeland more than half of her life she considers herself as close to a Lakeland native as they come. She enjoys volunteering in the community, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Erin is a Buyer for Publix Supermarkets and has worked for the grocery retailer for almost 22 years. She is a graduate of Polk State College and earned her Bachelors of Applied Science degree in 2016.

Erin’s 2021 Swan Derby team, Swan Before the Storm, was the proud winner of the Derby Dash and the 3rd place finisher in fundraising efforts, raising more than $8,800 for LVIM!

“My experience as a Leader of Polk was like none other. Even with the limitations of the pandemic we were able to bring the community together and raise awareness for LVIM. I am definitely honored for the opportunity for Will to pass me the baton and be 2022’s Mama Swan. The upcoming Derby is going to be great and I am so excited to lead the next Leaders of Polk group!”
