LAKELAND, FL (May 11, 2022) – GiveWell Community Foundation (GWCF) is pleased to announce that a total of $835,509 has been awarded to 83 nonprofit organizations through the Impact Polk 2022 grant cycle.

Carol Viviano is our volunteer of the month for May 2022! Carol serves as a receptionist on Monday and Thursday mornings. Carol has served at LVIM since September of 2021. She has 260 volunteer hours.
When Carol is not serving at LVIM she enjoys cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning. She also enjoys gardening and sitting on her lanai. Carol’s favorite parts of volunteering at LVIM are the people and the great atmosphere they create.
Valerie Poole is our volunteer of the month for April 2022!
Valerie volunteers as a patient scheduler and as an intake screener. She has served 275 hours at Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. Before joining Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine Valerie worked as an RN at a local hospital serving in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and ICU. She also worked as a Hospice nurse.
When Valerie is not at LVIM she enjoys gardening, reading, and traveling. She hopes to visit the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and the Smithsonian museum.
Valerie’s favorite part of being a Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine volunteer is that it is “meaningful work, that makes a difference for people. I appreciate being a part of it.”

Gretchen Hesse is our Volunteer of the Month for March 2022.
Gretchen serves as an Intake Screener on Wednesdays.
Gretchen has served at LVIM for 9 months and has 310 hours.
Before coming to LVIM Gretchen lived in California and worked as an ICU nurse for 20 years and ran a large nonprofit that provided food, housing, and social services to clients.
Gretchen’s favorite part of volunteering at LVIM is doing something that makes a difference in the lives of her peers.

On August 19, 2021, the LVIM Board of Trustees officially adopted the
LVIM COVID-19 Position Statement.
In summary, it states:
In response to COVID-19, LVIM remains focused on maintaining operations, stewarding resources, and continuing to live up to our mission to provide high-quality, compassionate, free healthcare to the working uninsured of Polk County, FL. At LVIM, the Circle of Caring is the foundation of our culture:
May we have eyes to see those rendered invisible and excluded,
Open arms and hearts to reach out and include them,
Healing hands to touch their lives with love,
And in the process heal ourselves.
LVIM provides access to healthcare, education, prevention and primary healthcare to ensure that our clients get well and stay well so they can stay out of the hospital, continue living fulfilling lives, provide for their families, and contribute to the greater community.
LVIM is also built on the foundation of volunteers and takes very seriously the call to protect those who serve our clients.
